Just saw the news. Things have gotten really bad in Dallas. It was, unfortunately, only a matter of time until something like this happened.

Not that things were ever “great,” but everything just seems more fucked up than say seven or eight years ago.

NRA: “If the protesters were also armed, this situation could have been avoided.”

Reports say that four are dead now. Horrible.

Yeah. 11 total shot, so that may go up.

I agree.

True. Things are just rapidly going downhill as time goes on. The whole thing is just a mess.

Two political conventions are up soon. Shit is about to hit the fans, we have two candidates that people don’t like. This summer is pretty bad.

One of the suspects. A good guy with a gun, parading with his rifle during the protest.

The protesters have to be NRA approved silly.

Assault rifle at that. I understand why they are all upset. What happened in Louisiana and Minnesota should have never gotten that out of hand. The sad part is that this is becoming so common that eventually what happened tonight will only happen more due to retaliation. Things have to change or else this will only get worse and more common to the point of civil war.

Fuck all of this. I’m a dual-citizen. I’m moving my ass to Iran.

Jesus... what the fuck is going on in this country!? I can’t help but feel that we’re on the verge of one hell of a national-level crisis, if not de facto civil war.

I don’t see anyone.

He turned himself into police peacefully.

The Police department that the Minneapolis cop was from (St. Anthony) is the neighborhood I grew up in. A friend of mine grew up a block away from the actual shooting.

Will you run there?

Yep. To clear up confusion I’d guess.
Not that he did anything wrong as far as we know.

Going to Hell in a handbasket, as they used to say.

A pair of snipers opened fire on police at a protest rally in Dallas. Eleven officers shot, four dead so far

I just don’t understand this. How people think that this sort of wanton violence is terrible and bad, so they respond with wanton violence in return.
I don’t claim to be highly educated on the whole deal with the growing rise in police brutality and deaths because of police brutality, but we need to just calm down on both sides. If this escalates any further, I’m worried about what might be the results that will come from the aftermath.
Sending out some quick love to Dallas, stay safe Opponauts in the Lone Star state.

He’s no longer a person of interest. Just a Texan doing something completely legal in Texas.*
*Not intended to be demeaning or dismissive in any way.

You know that statement is coming tomorrow, guaranteed.

For sure! I can OC here in MN if I wanted, but I choose not to do so.
Something about being a target...

Two shootings by police, one in Minnesota and one in Louisiana. Both were African-American males who were killed. The one in Minnesota was in his car and had a gun with him, but had a permit for it. It was made know to the cop that he had it, but as he reached for his ID, he was shot and killed. The one in Louisiana started when a homeless man called 911 on a guy who he got into it with (by all accounts, the homeless guy was harassing the person and when he should the homeless guy his gun, he called police). So guy with gun gets put on the ground by the cops and while he is laying there is shot and killed. Both incidents were caught on tape.
This sparkes outrage for obvious reasons. People protested across the US today. While a peaceful protest was going on in Dallas, a man with and assault rifle started shooting cops. As of now 4 cops are dead and another 7 are injured.

I agree. As a commenter said in the Gawker article, violence begets violence. It’s just bad all around.

Wow. That’s crazy. Things are just going to pot at a rapid pace.
![]() 07/08/2016 at 00:52 |

Well If he wasn’t the one who shot at the cops, at least they didn’t kill him. That could have made this already bad situation even worse.

They are (rightly) sick and tired of the violence, and the fact police are rarely ever punished for it. Obviously this is a terrible response to that frustration, and one that won’t help anything, but you can see where it comes from.

That’s the danger with generalization.
Some think all Muslims are bad because of Daesh. Some think all cops are bad because of the few racist/bad ones. Some think all blacks hate cops because of Black Lives Matter.
We reap what we sew.

Apparently there are videos of the man being anything but a sniper when the shots in question are fired.
I’m still worried about his future safety though, I fully expect a full name, background information and full address to be freely available on the internet soon considering the average internet user these days...

1968 all over again. That year was maybe the closest in modern times the US has come to any kind of civil breakdown.

Someone attending the funerals of previous “victims” before the whole story was played out couldn’t have helped race relations.

Yeah. Woke up this morning and saw the update. Terrible.
